We all get lost. Whether emotionally, physically, spiritually, or all of the above—life can take us off track. Join us in the magical woods of Bainbridge Island, WA at Islandwood Retreat Center for four days and three nights of journeying back to you.
RRetreats were developed by Meadow DeVor and Laura McKowen to provide unique experiences that connect and empower you to recover your true, whole self. Through a combination of yoga, meditation, teachings, discussion, nourishing food, beautiful scenery and unstructured down time, we will cultivate a deeper sense of belonging: to this world, to your community and to that which you are called to serve.
The program is specifically geared toward the path of recovery of mind, body and soul. Read: the happy hour is on the yoga mat.
What to Expect
Spend mornings doing instructor-led meditation and yoga practice, followed by teaching and discussion. You will learn how to listen to your body's wisdom—to physically, emotionally and spiritually heal yourself—and connect to your internal source of health to help yourself gain vitality and joy. Morning yoga will be a powerful Vinyasa flow taught by Laura; afternoon practice will be restorative, Yoga Church style, taught by Meadow.
The body has its own language and it is constantly offering meaningful guidance. Understanding this language is critical to emotional, physical and spiritual healing. Mind-body connection isn't an on/off switch. It's an ever deepening well. The relationship between our mind and our body needs space and time to create intimacy, trust and understanding. The body stores memories, traumas and emotional pain. To fully heal and move on, the body must be supported in letting go of the past.
Evenings will be spent storytelling, laughing and connecting around the campfire or cozying up with a good book and a cup of tea in the lodge.
And of course, just like every other retreat, we will be spending plenty of time doing soul-searching self-work with lots of relaxation and play built into the schedule.
All activities during this retreat are focused on uncovering, or more deeply examining who you are, what you want, what isn't working for you and what you yearn for. Regardless of where you are in recovery—years in, or simply hearing a call you have yet to answer—this retreat will deepen your experience and connection to your own path. This retreat will be powerful.
Food and Accommodations
Every bite matters. This simple-yet-intentional philosophy guides Chef Jim White's approach to IsandWood's dining. His menus showcase local, organic and sustainably sourced ingredients, simply prepared and thoughtfully presented. Retreat registration covers all meals from Thursday evening to Sunday morning.
Each guest will have their own room and bathroom and the group will share a private lodge. Our workshops, lectures and restorative yoga practice will take place in the great room overlooking the stone fireplace and lush forest.

Registration fee is $1890 and includes:
- Lodging (single occupancy room) Thursday - Saturday evening, check-out on Sunday.
- Meals (Thursday dinner through Sunday breakfast) are included with registration.

Meadow is an internationally recognized teacher with over two thousand hours of experience teaching life coach training programs (including weight loss coach training, business coach training, money coach training, personal development teacher trainings and mentor trainings) since 2007. Additionally, she has taught over five thousand hours of yoga philosophy, personal development and coaching classes. Meadow has been published in Woman’s Day Magazine, on the popular blogs: Rebelle Society and Enemy of Debt, and has had the pleasure of being a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Meadow has practiced yoga since 1996 and has trained with many outstanding teachers including Seane Corn, Mark Whitwell, Shiva Rea, and Rod Stryker. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT500) through Yoga Alliance.
Meadow is the founder of Yoga Church and is a yoga-beach-and-sunshine-loving mom who lives with her daughter and her insanely cute maltipoo in the quiet countryside of the Central Coast of California.
Laura is a writer, teacher, speaker and recovery advocate. She teaches workshops, writes and speaks about personal transformation, addiction and recovery, truth-telling, and purpose.
She is the co-host of HOME podcast, a show that takes up the big questions of life through the lens of addiction recovery. She is a regular contributor at Huffington Post and her work has been featured in Elephant Journal, XOJane, and The Mid, among other popular online publications.
Laura has practiced yoga since 2001 and taught since 2009. She has studied with David Vendetti, Seane Corn, Ana Forrest and Elena Brower, among other outstanding teachers. She is a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200) through The Yoga Alliance and is currently enrolled in a master life coaching and yoga certification program (RYT 200).
Laura lives with her daughter on the north shore of Boston and is currently writing her first book, a memoir.
